Digestive Enzymes and Acid Reflux

Can digestive enzymes help acid reflux?
Deficiency in digestive enzymes in the stomach is a major cause of acid reflux. If there are not enough digestive enzymes present, the food particles won’t be broken down adequately and the body must produce more acid than normal in an attempt to compensate for the lack of enzymes present. This creates an extreme acidic environment. So naturally, taking digestive enzymes is extremely effective in aiding the digestion process.

What enzymes to take for digestive problems
There are four main categories to look for in a digestive enzyme:
• Protease - breaks down proteins
• Lipase -breaks down fats
• Amylase -breaks down carbohydrates (Starch)
• Cellulase - breaks down fiber

Acid reflux symptoms
Acid reflux symptoms are much the same as heartburn symptoms. They just happen more often.

What does acid reflux feel like?
It is typically a burning sensation in your chest that is associated with that acidic liquid (stomach acid) that gets burped up into the esophagus (throat).
Acid Reflux Diet

Which foods to eat when you have acid reflux
Eat lots of raw fruits, vegetables and nuts. Do not cook them! Raw, uncooked vegetables and fruits have enzymes in them naturally and cooking them kills those enzymes. Also these foods usually have a high PH. Remember, too much acid is what we are eliminating.
Acid reflux food to avoid:
Avoid cooked or processed foods when possible. These foods are already acidic and will cause your stomach to produce excess acid to break them down. Avoid spicy foods and alcohol as these will only add to the problem.
Acid reflux remedy
Digestive enzymes along with the above described diet and adequately chewing your food will target the main causes of acid reflux and are a perfect combination cure.
